THREE RIVERS ROMANCE WRITERS – 2013 WRITERS’ RETREAT WEEKEND
October 11, 12, 13, 2013
We’re still looking for a perfect location, but fear not. It shall present itself soon!
We are hoping to keep the cost around $200 or less per person.
We’ll add room details here once we’ve found a place large enough for all of us.
As of 08/25/2013 we have 5 people registered and are looking for a location large enough to accommodate those 5 plus a few others.
(IF YOU CHOOSE TO SHARE A ROOM, then you can split the cost in half, but we’d like to know if you’re going to share a room so we know how many participants to expect. (It’s probably a good idea to find a roommate first, but it’s not necessary as long as you’re willing to pay for the whole room yourself.))
Now until August 24, 2013 (You can turn it in at the TRRW meeting or pay via Paypal link on the Registration Page.)
Reservations will be taken on a first-come-first-served basis. Please bring your deposit to our next TRRW meeting on Saturday, August 24th, or use the PayPal link on the website registration page. The remainder of money will be due by September 20, 2013.
After August 24, 2013, registration is open to non TRRW members.
Following our August 24th meeting, we will open up the retreat to people who are NOT members of TRRW, so if you want to come, make sure you reserve a spot soon!
Protected Writing Time (a/k/a the no talking zone): Have you ever been on a retreat where all anyone did was talk and drink alcohol? While we agree that there is nothing wrong with those activities, we intend to focus this retreat on writing. Toward that end, the Three Rivers Romance Writers Retreat will have protected blocks of time wherein only writing and writing-related activities will be permitted. No talking, other than “please pass the M&M’s” will be permitted during Protected Writing Time.
Brainstorm the Madness: You asked for it, you’ve got it. Do you have a story you are trying to plot? Do you have a character you just can’t flesh out? Bring your problems to the retreat and bounce your ideas off your TRRW friends to help solve your plot/characterization problems. We will have an hour or two set aside just for this purpose.
Writing Sprints: Everyone will be given a certain block of time [say, 10-15 minutes]. During that time you will be challenged to see who can get the most words down. The purpose of this is to allow your inner editor to go away and let your creativity shine. The person who gets the most “story” down in that time period will win a prize …. A copy of “The Emotion Thesaurus: A Writer’s Guide To Character Expression”.
And Games: Once Upon a Time [this is copied directly from Amazon & the manufacturer’s website] is a game in which the players create a story together, using cards that show typical elements from fairy tales. One player is the Storyteller and creates a story using the ingredients on her cards. She tries to guide the plot towards her own ending. The other players try to use cards to interrupt her and become the new Storyteller. The winner is the first player to play out all her cards and end with her Happy Ever After card.
Did we mention prizes?: An overall words-per-retreat-winner will win another writer’s book, or a gift card, or whatever else we may have donated. Perhaps there will be more than one prize. Either way…isn’t it worth working your butt off to get the most words written?
*Registration closes September 20, 2013.
**FULL PAYMENT DUE BY SEPTEMBER 20, 2013.
***A $25 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your reservation, but the remaining amount for your room must be paid by September 20, 2013, after which people on the waiting list will be given an option to take any unpaid slots.
