Writing a Romantic Suspense? Writing a Historical with a Delicious Highwayman? Then you need to attend this special workshop hosted by the Coraopolis District Sportsmen’s Association.
WHEN: Saturday, July 26, 2014. Sign in will start at 8:30 am, lunch from noon to 1:00, and ending around 3:00 p.m.
WHERE: Coraopolis District Sportsmen’s Association, 106 Coketown Rd, Coraopolis, PA 15108
COST: $15 for TRRW Members; $30 for Non-Members.
DETAILS: The CDSA has graciously offered to provide us this workshop for an astonishingly low price, but spaces are limited so you must sign up in advance, and you must sign a waiver.
We will begin the session with a safety class taken from our CDSA Safety Orientation course. This course is mandatory for all our members. We hope to have a variety of firearms available for display to illustrate the wide number of models and actions available on the market today. Participants will learn the difference between a sporting rifle and an assault rifle, and witness a live fire demonstration of each. Participants will have the chance to fire a semi automatic .22 long rifle pistol as well as a .22 rifle. We will have an experienced coach on the firing line with each person and a certified Range Safety Officer at each station to oversee safety.
We will have a discussion on the differences between flintlock and percussion cap muzzle loading firearms, as well as different shotgun action types.
Those participants with their own firearm, who wish to use our range after the event, may bring one box of ammunition for range time afterwards. We will provide an RSO for each person. It would be helpful for our planning if we know ahead of time about your intention to take advantage of this. All firearms must arrive unloaded in a case, unless legally concealed carry.
If you are considering purchasing a firearm, this will be an excellent opportunity to ask a lot of questions to a lot of people with a lifetime of experience.
SAFETY GEAR: Please bring eye protection (safety glasses) and hearing protection. Due to hygiene concerns, we prefer you have your own. Please wear sensible, comfortable clothing. When the empty brass is ejected from a firearm it is hot. Empty brass tends to find its way into the most uncomfortable places, use your imagination. For safety, no open toe shoes, sandals or high heels. Bring a visor or ball cap with a bill to protect your eyes from empties. Bring rain gear if called for, our shooting areas are roofed, but we must walk outdoors between stations and to retrieve targets.
Please go to the CDSA website www.cdsc.us and read the club safety rules. These can be accessed on the home page at the top by moving your mouse over the General Info tab. The drop down menu lists Club Rules and when you click on that it will display all CDSA rules and regulations. This will give you a head start on the safety protocols we follow at CDSA and the other tabs can provide more information on the club.
REGISTRATION: Please fill out the waiver and bring it with you on July 26, 2014. You can email it to us at: firstname.lastname@example.org as a backup, but please remember to bring an original signed waiver. Once you’ve got the waiver filled out, go ahead and choose the appropriate payment (member or non-member) rate.
